I’m obsessed with rescuing and restoring old furniture, specifically mid century modern style (think “Mad Men”). That’s why when I heard that today is “Old Stuff Day”, I was extremely excited to write this post. This is a relatively new obsession, prompted by the decision to restore the interior to match the era of our 1950′s atomic ranch home. Of course, it will come as no surprise that I gave myself a low budget for the task – mostly for the challenge to see if I could make it happen (honestly, I’m just competitive like that sometimes).
In tackling this challenge, the first thing I learned was that there’s no point in paying top dollar for a restored piece (well, mostly because I can’t afford many of them) when its much more economical to do it yourself. The second thing I learned was that patience is key to get what you really want at the right price.
The moral of the story: Don’t count it out just because its old. It could be just the piece you need to turn your house into a home.Share on Facebook
