Growing up on a family farm in small town Virginia, my family worked hard for a living and instilled that virtue in me starting at a young age. My grandfather still works the land and tends to his cattle everyday (note: he’s in his 80′s), and my grandmother has owned and operated her own business for almost 40 years in partnership with my mother. My great-grandfather was a self-made success story and I remember him being a penny pincher even in all his success. Needless to say, I’ve got working hard on a budget in my blood. One problem – I’ve also got expensive tastes.
Hello, good life. Meet budget. Get to know each other, its going to be a bumpy ride.
It’s pretty obvious the words “expensive” and “budget” don’t usually play well together. Once I moved out on my own, claimed Nashville as my new hometown, and got married (in that order), I decided to do something about it. Why can’t a girl on a budget enjoy the finer things in life without breaking the bank? Since then, I’ve bought a beautiful home, furnishings, vacations, even had a extravagant wedding for a quarter of the pricetag. And shoes – lots of shoes. All without buyer’s remorse. And with a lot of money left in my pocket.
I started Beauty and a Budget as a resource for those who want to enjoy the good life and have money left over. For those who think its silly to pay more for something when you have the choice to pay less. And for those working hard on a budget with expensive tastes like myself. A toast to all of us.
Live well. Not Broke.
