In the spirit of the holiday season, there’s a movement to create a national day of giving on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. It’s called #GivingTuesday, and you’ll probably see that hashtag all over social media today. I love the encouragement to support non-profit organizations, so today’s post isn’t about saving, it’s about giving. I’m so blessed with being able to save money throughout the year that it gives me joy to be able to give back, not just today but throughout the year. Here are some ways you can give back on #GivingTuesday:
2) Support a Children’s Hospital. Local children’s hospitals have many needs past just donations. Here’s a great article on ways you can support: 10 Ways to Support a Children’s Hospital This Holiday Season
3) Adopt an angel or family. The Salvation Army Angel Tree is the most popular way to adopt an angel, but many local organizations also have opportunities to adopt a child or family for the holiday season.
4) Be a worldwide partner. One of my favorite non-profit organizations is Samaritan’s Purse. While they are active throughout the year (their disaster relief team provides support for major disasters worldwide), I love their holiday programs. Two are especially close to my heart – Operation Christmas Child (there’s nothing more fun than filling a shoebox full of goodies for kids across the world!) and the Gift Catalog (purchasing much needed gifts for families and communities). Learn more at samaritanspurse.org.
5) Give to a food pantry. Whether it involves cleaning out your pantry or skipping your morning coffee for a week to buy food to donate, its a great way to directly help those in your community. You can do the same thing with clothing (especially gloves, hats, and coats this time of year!). Find a food bank near you at www.feedingamerica.org.
